Oriental rugs
Marco Polo writes in the thirteenth century of the beauty of Oriental rugs. Inventories and travel diaries of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries mention them, and they are clearly shown in many Renaissance paintings, so we know they had been introduced into Europe at that time.
The oldest group of rugs still in existence today comes from sixteenth and seventeenth century Persia.
They are not only the oldest rugs, they are the most beautiful the world has ever seen. Nothing woven since, anywhere on earth, has equaled them for design, color, and enchanting loveliness.
